Cusco Inti Raymi & Machupicchu Package 5D/4N

Inti Raymi is a Quechua word that means ‘Party of the Sun’. Every winter solstice (between June 20th and 23rd) the Inca would perform a ritual in honor of the sun, the maximum divinity in the Tahuantinsuyo. It was formerly known as Wawa Inti Raymi. Pachacutec, who ordered the construction of Machu Picchu, began this religious-cultural tradition in the 15th century. According to the Andean cosmovision, at that time the sun began its cycle again. Since 1944, this tradition was reinstated in Cusco. Today, it is one of the most important celebrations in Peru. Its celebration includes dances, representations, typical costumes and a series of ideal activities for tourism.

The inhabitants of Cusco traditionally involve everyone, including tourists, to enjoy and marvel at this most special day. Countless additional events should be seen before, during and after the 24th. These are exhibitions, street and square activities in the day and evening live concerts given by the very best of Peru’s diverse musical talents, held in the Plaza el Armas.
